It’s likely a oddball example of a more general law. The law itself probably says something like “animal” and works with a definition that includes the animal being alive.
Any time you see someone making a claim about a strange law involving a highly unlikely circumstance, consider if the law would make sense if it applied to something similar but more common, (elephant doesn’t make sense, dog or cat does).

Um, not quite as stupid as it sounds. One of the earliest classic movies is “Electrocuting an Elephant”, a demonstration of the then-new method of using electricity to execute people. The proof it worked was to pick the biggest animal they could find, and stick it in something not unlike an electric oven, and then zap it.
I’d guess the law might be this specific as a specific response to a rather disturbing activity.

What on earth would prompt someone to make this law? And more importantly, why would anyone put an elephant in an electric oven? Or any oven for that matter? Also, what if it is a dead elephant? Or part of a dead elephant?

I think it’s perfectly sensible for elephants not to be placed inside electric cookers. What a stupendous law.

There’s a photoshop contest on a site I am on frequently that linked this site: http://www.PXLeyes.com and we are supposed to make a visual of the stupid law. Here’s the one I came up with.
