Zola: the intention is to avoid the perception of the possibility of “fixing” or “throwing” games (paying coaches/players to perform at a certain level or intentionally lose). This is the same reason that professional sports were unofficially banned from the city.

That ban was lifted by the State Gaming Commission in 2001. You can now bet on Nevada College sports.
