Used to be only foods ready to eat could be sold (someone won a court case by eating a raw kipper in front of the magistrate)
UK law now restricts the opening of stores over 280 sq m floor space to 6 continuous hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Despite complaints this is one of the most relaxed regimes in the EU

this is no longer true, though sunday trading is limited and varied depending on the type and size of shop
