Every head of household must possess a firearm of some kind.

Background information (if available):

On May 1, 1982 the city passed an ordinance [Sec 34-1a] requiring every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition. It was passed partly in response to a 1981 handgun ban in Morton Grove, Illinois. Kennesaw’s law was amended in 1983 to exempt those who conscientiously object to owning a firearm, convicted felons, those who cannot afford a firearm, and those with a mental or physical disability that would prevent them from owning a firearm. It mentions no penalty for its violation.

This is actually still a law, but has never been enforced and was never intended to be. Exceptions for the law are made for any household with children, for households with convicted felons and any housholds opposed to guns. The law was made as a protest against cities in the 1970s that banned the ownership or possession of fire arms, which the Kennesaw government believed to be a violation of the 2nd ammendment. Therefore, I do not believe it should be counted as a stupid law… but I do believe that local governments do and always have had the right to ban guns.

This is ridiculous, people. When we wrote the Constitution, we thought it was perfectly clear that every American had the right to hang a pair of bear arms on their wall…

I moved to Kennesaw Ga. about 20 yrs ago partly because it is the safest part of metro Atlanta area. Soon after arriving I discovered the law. It may well be stupid, ridiculous, or any other adjective you may have, but the few towns in the USA that have this law also have the lowest crime rate. I own a small hand gun but no ammunition for it.
