That is a very common custom (not law) that is repected by many other countries throughout Asia and the Pacific regions; even in the traditional indigenous populations here in Australia!

this one is not a law, it is an old Filipino tradition of respect to parents.
No longer applicable now because teens are corrupted (“westernized”)
